We are using more digital tools and services in different parts in our lives. We are not only online on social media, but also to make an appointment with your doctor on their website, and doing our finances in the banking app.
However, these online spaces are not often designed with people with intellectual disabilities in mind, and are often inaccessible as a result. People with intellectual disability find it difficult to access and use the internet to the same level as people without disabilities.
Digital spaces and services should be accessible and inclusive for everyone. For that reason, Inclusion Europe with European Digital Rights are hosting a discussion group to bring together people working on disability rights, human rights and tech fields to discuss the digital experience of people with intellectual disabilities.
The discussion will cover topics of inclusive design in digital public or essential services, web accessibility and representative and inclusive data. The discussion group will provide us with a better understanding of how digitalisation can support people with intellectual disabilities.
