EU: G7 adopts Charter on disability inclusion

G7 countries adopted the Solfagnano Charter on disability inclusion. It is the first time the G7 group adopts a document on disability rights.

Ireland: government’s accession to the Optional Protocol of the UN CRPD

The Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission (IHREC) published its submission to the UN Human Rights Council recommending that Ireland “proceeds with the immediate ratification of the optional protocol to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.”

EU: European disability card and parking card

The European Council has adopted two new directives that will make it easier for persons with disabilities to travel within the EU.

France: 3,940 parents respond to survey about caring for people with disabilities

The Voix des Parents survey highlights that 80% of care for people with disabilities is provided by their families, however, they face major challenges, including mental health issues, due to the lack of support, fundings and empowerment.

Greece: self-advocacy meetings to improve political participation

Meetings in Athens and Thessaloniki brought together more that 60 participants to improve the political participation of people with intellectual disabilities.

EU: European organisations call for substantive actions for mental health

On World Mental Health Day 2024, 33 European organisations call for substantive actions to shape a Europe where everyone’s mental health thrives across their life course.

Updates from Inclusion Europe

  • Inclusion Europe participates in creating a training for those responsible for transition from institutions to community-based support. We attended recent meetings in Prague, with Together+ project partners from Czechia, Lithuania, Romania and Slovakia work to promote deinstitutionalisation.
  • Flavia Poppe de Figueiredo Muñoz, who received the EU Human Rights Prize from the EU Delegation to Brazil, visited Inclusion Europe. She received the award for the JNG Institute project “Housing for Independent Living”, a scheme that helps people with intellectual disabilities and autism find housing and live included in the community.
  • We participated in Disability Platform meeting, organised by the European Commission.
