Lydia Fisher, self-advocate from Ireland, spoke on the accessibility of websites and apps and the importance of getting the right support.
“The internet is important, because I use it for work and for my personal life. I like traveling, but sometimes, when things are not clear, I need to ask for support — like booking a hotel.
“The internet is powerful, but if you don’t know how to use it, you are kind of lost. Everyone wants to get the right support!”
Lydia Fisher, self-advocate from Ireland, spoke on a panel on accessibility of websites and apps organised by IAAP – International Association of Accessibility Professionals.
This webinar, which took place 23 September 2025, was organised to mark the 5th birthday of the Web Accessibility Directive. This is a law saying that governments and other public administrations in Europe must make their websites and apps accessible. T
Lydia also shared great ideas to make public websites and apps better:
- “Make easy-to-read to get people interested.”
- “Simple is best! Try to not make it complicated.”
- “Work with people with disabilities and ask them if what you are doing is accessible. If it isn’t, there is another way to do it.”
