Self-Determination Academy International Seminar
14 October 2026 | Brussels and online
- What does it really mean to have control over your own life?
- What helps people make their own choices and decisions?
- And what needs to change in organisations, services and policies to make self-determination a reality?
On 14 October, the Self-Determination Academy brings together self-advocates, young people, disability organisations and policymakers for a European conversation about self-determination and inclusion.
We look at what organisations are doing to promote self-determination and inclusion – and where change is still needed.
We discuss what Europe can do to ensure that people with intellectual disabilities and autistic people have more choice, control and influence over their own lives.
What will happen during the day?
Morning – Self-determination in practice
- European perspective on making self-determination a reality.
- Self-advocates and young people involved in the Self-Determination Academy share their experiences during the project.
- European disability organisations discuss how organisations promote self-determination and inclusion
Afternoon – From learning to change
- Together, we discuss the changes that need to happen in policies, organisations and services, and in support and participation.
- We identify priorities for change and discuss how the learning, tools and ideas developed through SDA can continue to be used after the project.
