The Commissioner and Inclusion Europe discussed rights and inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities in Europe.
Inclusion Europe met with EU Commissioner for Equality Helena Dalli on 19 June in Brussels to discuss rights and inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities in Europe.
Inclusion Europe was represented by Jyrki Pinomaa, president, Soufiane El Amrani, accessibility expert, Helen Portal, policy and advocacy office, and Milan Sverepa, director.
Jyrki Pinomaa presented key issues described in Inclusion indicators 2023 report.
Commissioner Dalli described some of the recent initiatives following EU Disability Rights Strategy. For example, guidance on elections accessibility, employment etc.
Now, we are collecting data for Inclusion indicators 2024. This time, we also ask self-advocates for their individual take on the situation in their country. The self-advocate survey is available in Croatian, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Slovenian, and Spanish.
“Inclusion Indicators report has proved to be a useful tool in describing the situation of people with intellectual disabilities and their families in Europe,” says Jyrki Pinomaa.
“The feedback of the report has been very encouraging, and the report has been often referred to by policy and decision makers.”
