Supporting rights and inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities and their families in Ukraine

Inclusion Europe supports our member organisation in Ukraine in their advocacy for full rights and inclusion of people with intellectual disabilities.

Inclusion Europe participates in a project of the European Disability Forum to ensure persons with disabilities and their representative organisations are included in the response and recovery from the Russian war. The procejct is funded by CBM, and lasts from July 2023 to December 2024.

Inclusion Europe implements project activities in partnership with All-Ukrainian Coalition for People with Intellectual Disabilities (Inclusion Ukraine). The activities are also consulted and developed with other disability organisations and national and regional authorities.

The purpose of the partnership is to strengthen the Ukrainian disability movement, and to ensure disability inclusion in humanitarian response and reconstruction.

We focus on strengthening self-advocates’ and families’ involvement in designing support, and in formulating relevant laws and policies, developing know-how on community based support for people with disabilities, including deinstitutionalisation.

The project includes five areas of activities:

  1. Training and mentoring for self-advocates including support of their active involvement in international self-advocacy movement;
  2. Trainins for family members in areas such as supported decision-making, person-centred planning, development of support in community;
  3. Training and methodological support for services providers;
  4. Promoting deinstitutionalization;
  5. Reporting on rights and situation of people with intellectual disabilities and their families in Ukraine.

New website

As part of the project, the VGO Coalition and Inclusion Ukraine have a new website to present the organisations and their work.
