People with intellectual disabilities need to be able to have their say and be taken seriously

Soufiane El Amrani, Accessibility expert and self-advocate of Inclusion Europe, writes in Annual Report 2025.:

In 2025 I did a lot of different things with Inclusion Europe.

I spoke at the Global Disability Summit 2025 in Berlin. The Summit was a very big conference with people from all around the world.

I gave several easy-to-read trainings to many different organisations.
I went to the World Congress of Inclusion International. I took part in the Self-Advocacy Summit there, as well as in other sessions. With Inge we presented the Inclusion Indicators at the World Congress. Inclusion Indicators is a report about what Europe looks like for people with intellectual disabilities and their families.

I went to other conferences and events, both in Brussels and in different countries in Europe.

I also took part in self-advocacy meetings for Hear Our Voices!.

I spoke at the European Parliament about legal capacity and supported decision-making.

I also started a campaign for me to get elected to the board of the European Disability Forum.

I met a lot of self-advocates and many others working for inclusion.

All this work is very important.
People with intellectual disabilities need to be able to have their say and be taken seriously.

As I said in Berlin:
“Governments think they know what’s best for us, but they don’t. We do!”
